Speaking of gold in Connecticut, Katey Walker, a budding jewelry designer from the Nutmeg State, has been steadily making a name for herself in the industry. Her handcrafted collection of bold, mismatched stones—opals, freshwater pearls and turquoise—on gold settings has been scooped up by e-tailer Moda Operandi, and is also available on her own e-commerce platform. And though she has her sites set on conquering the Big Apple, her home state is still her biggest muse.
“Having grown up on the Connecticut shoreline, I have always been inspired by the seashore,” she said. “The colors, shapes, and sense of tranquility of the ocean have all influenced my design aesthetic.”
